Bread, water, begging cats, a tossed-out \u201cmaybe later,\u201d and the quiet question underneath it all: what\u2019s next? These are diary scraps from a place where living is cheap\u2014and thinking can be costly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">English body text<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In January 2026. In Hurghada.<br>I gathered a few stray notes from my diary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>One more lap.<\/strong><br>As usual, I bought bread by the roadside. Next time I\u2019ll buy the full kilo of bread, even though half would be enough\u2014I\u2019ll freeze the rest. Because the poor lady has to split and recount the bag she\u2019s prepared, and today I felt bad that she gave me too much for my ten pounds.<br>But I forgot the water. I go down to the shop and buy a big bottle. The guy asks for phone interpreting. For this bottle I\u2019d need an exchange bottle. They don\u2019t have that. Then it\u2019s an extra two hundred. By the way, twenty liters of clean water is about two euros.<br>I\u2019d also need a water pitcher. They don\u2019t have that either.<br>Around here, the only thing there\u2019s plenty of is \u201clocal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Are we happy, Vincent?<\/strong><br>The French state support arrived. Du pain, de l\u2019eau, des chats mendiants, un \u00ab maybe later \u00bb lanc\u00e9 au passage, et la question silencieuse au fond : et maintenant, quoi ? Voici des fragments de journal d\u2019un endroit o\u00f9 vivre co\u00fbte peu \u2014 et o\u00f9 penser peut co\u00fbter cher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Corps du texte en fran\u00e7ais<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En janvier 2026. \u00c0 Hurghada.<br>J\u2019ai rassembl\u00e9 quelques notes \u00e9gar\u00e9es de mon journal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Encore un tour.<\/strong><br>Comme d\u2019habitude, j\u2019ai achet\u00e9 du pain au bord de la route. La prochaine fois, j\u2019ach\u00e8terai le kilo entier, m\u00eame si la moiti\u00e9 suffit \u2014 je cong\u00e8lerai le reste. Parce que la pauvre dame doit couper et recompter le sachet d\u00e9j\u00e0 pr\u00e9par\u00e9, et aujourd\u2019hui j\u2019ai eu de la peine : elle m\u2019en a donn\u00e9 trop pour mes dix livres.<br>Mais j\u2019ai oubli\u00e9 l\u2019eau. Je descends au magasin, j\u2019ach\u00e8te un grand bidon. Le gars demande une interpr\u00e9tation par t\u00e9l\u00e9phone. Pour ce bidon, il me faudrait une bouteille de consigne \u00e0 \u00e9changer. Il n\u2019y en a pas. Alors c\u2019est deux cents de plus. Au passage, vingt litres d\u2019eau propre co\u00fbtent environ deux euros.<br>Il me faudrait aussi une carafe. Il n\u2019y en a pas.<br>Par ici, la seule chose qu\u2019il y a en abondance, c\u2019est le \u00ab local \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On est contents, Vincent ?<\/strong><br>L\u2019aide de l\u2019\u00c9tat fran\u00e7ais est arriv\u00e9e. C\u2019est la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 elle-m\u00eame qui doit changer.<br>L\u2019\u00c9gypte n\u2019est pas d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9e \u00e0 cause d\u2019un seul dirigeant, par exemple ; c\u2019est parce que les gens ne savent pas penser autrement.<br>Comment le pourraient-ils ?
