May 08.<br\/>When I see the sea after the railway tunnel, I smile. I got on two stops earlier, at Saint-Martin-Crau station; I left my scooter. If I&#8217;m lucky, it will be there in the evening, after the last train.<br\/>The Saint Charles station is long overgrown, but I like it, it&#8217;s part of the atmosphere of the city: a great Arab city. It is just that the former algiers are not present in the city administration. There are particularly many people in public spaces today. As well as today being a national day of celebration, the Olympic flame arrives in the country today; on a sailing boat from Greece. The old harbour and its surroundings are the main venue for events, which is why I&#8217;m here. The whole area is fenced off, and at the main arrival point there are hundreds of metres(!) of people waiting to get in. I will not join that queue! I&#8217;m moving one street over. I&#8217;m just fifty metres from the long queue and I only have a minute to wait for the airport screening level for entry.<br\/>The issue of security does not seem to be taken lightly. Anyway, from the train station, I can see that at any geographical point, within sight, there is bound to be a police car or four policemen on foot. And here in the square, under the banner of security and freedom, they lead the crowd between barriers. The police are not disturbing, they are normal, they are nice, they are everywhere in the background, but they are everywhere.<br\/>I try to go directly down to the water&#8217;s edge, sit on the lowest platform to soothe my sea worship a little, but it&#8217;s cordoned off. I suppose it&#8217;s because of the arrival of the Olympic boat. Described like that, my day feels like complaining, but I feel fine. I am laughing as I write this: it seems the world has to choose between freedom or security. If these two words are the two ends of a scale, then perhaps today can be a viable compromise. I can see the physical limits concretely. Yet I feel that the people running these barriers are actually supporting me with my taxpayers&#8217; money. I not only feel safe, I trust this security staff of a few thousand people. Meanwhile, I feel that my decisions are my own, my thoughts are free to flow. Coming from Eastern Europe, this is not an irrelevant observation.<br\/>I am especially happy about the hostess girls. The first one gives me a cute bracelet, the second one a fan, and the third one has a map. The thing is, I brought an extra battery, but no cable. For this reason I am extra grateful when the girl hands me an info booklet, as I have put the phone offline to make sure it will last until I get home, It says all the important programmes will be here in the old port. In the evening, the ship docks with the Olympic flame, and during the day there are festival-style activities. Unfortunately, I can&#8217;t wait for the mooring of the boat and the show and fireworks afterwards. During the day, the boat will pass by several coastal areas of Marseille, then turn into this bay in the city centre. I thought about going out to the beaches, but the brochure says there are no activities there, only the viewpoints to see the few thousand boats accompanying the Olympic sail.<br\/>Today, I can&#8217;t arrive in Marseille without hearing at least one brass band play. I&#8217;m dancing now.<br\/>I&#8217;m tempted by all these souvenir vendors, but I don&#8217;t really need any. Grafitisek not on the house wall, but on fences -officially invited. We also have the inevitable hip hop dancers, I mean it, I can&#8217;t imagine this space without them. I&#8217;m looking at it like a bunch of people lined up for nothing &#8211; facing the water; then I just got the answer: one of them is a face painter, the other one has our portrait printed on regular paper &#8211; with the harbour in the background. I wonder where these traditional images will be in six months&#8217; time? I go to the front of the line, stop two steps to the right of the photographer, turn my back to the harbour and click away my own camera&#8230; Maybe I&#8217;ll print this selfie one day. I&#8217;m walking on the street. The two separate DJ booths are fortunate to have different styles of music, but all danceable music &#8211; I say this from practical experience. There are games for children. It&#8217;s a pity I remember the first game counter, I should have got into that guessing game, because then I would have had a graphite pencil and paper and not the phone to dip into with all those notes. I found another tiny &#8211; tiny soap museum. Obviously, they did this just for the tourists. (Unlike in the city of Salon, where a vacant factory building has been reused.) I was persuaded that for the two and a half euro entrance fee, they would give me a free bar of soap. What I&#8217;m going to do with a mimosa scented soap I don&#8217;t know, but I liked the museum piece, they also mentioned lavender and olive oil.<br\/>I sit down on a bench and eat half a kilo of strawberries, and inevitably I remember that life is good.<br\/>I saw police horses with incredibly cute police girls. People are dancing in front of the town hall. Me too.<br\/>The square is full, but there is no crowd pressure yet, the whole place moves to the beat. There is also a ball and a bicycle. Skills demonstration. Jo myself, in the course of the afternoon I decide that was enough. I go down to the quay on the international port side. It is also blocked . I mean the water, but with a view of the sea. Nevertheless, the music is pleasant. I enjoy it. I look at the trees, what beautiful flowers. They are as flawless as if they were made of silk. I got it and I really got it! It is attached to a tree branch with a quick-ties. I laugh out loud at another wonder of the insta-world. I&#8217;m going to the beachside mall, if by chance the steak on the panoramic terrace isn&#8217;t too expensive, I&#8217;ll have lunch there. Only Vapiano&#8217;s pasta is priced in earthly terms, but I eat plenty of pasta during the week. While I&#8217;m here, I&#8217;ll be stuck with the unrivalled panorama &#8211; for half an hour or so. I always do this when I see water. At Nespresso, they put such a hefty, thick crema foam on my coffee that they won me over. I wonder if it can do the same on my small machine.
