I\u2019ll start with a thought from Friday, right after a mini holiday in Nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, did the great Master Matisse really portray his own son as an empty-headed figure? I wonder if we see the same thing when we look at that painting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the first (Saturday) workday after Nice, I only have a three-word entry: fatigue, snack, sleep. You win some, you lose some; the weekend trip was full of experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Sunday, I\u2019m already celebrating in a nearby village. I don\u2019t even know exactly what.<br>It seems to be some kind of folk tradition, much like the one I saw in Arles back in June.<br>Again, the procession starts after dark, with all sorts of professions parading in all sorts of traditional attire\u2014with performances, dances, and horseback displays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I really liked the setting of the gala. This time, they didn\u2019t choose the arena or the theatre, but a forest-edge clearing next to the village\u2019s iconic windmill. Only a stage-sized area was paved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once again, they made clever use of the slope\u2014nothing here is level\u2014and everyone had a perfect view of the dancing from the hillside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The atmosphere, with its soft lighting and closeness to nature, gave the event a heartfelt intimacy.<br>Even though I didn\u2019t see anything new, it was still good just to be there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, the late start made sense: by 10 p.m., the temperature had dropped to a &#8220;cool&#8221; 31\u00b0C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monday and Tuesday shared a theme: sunsets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday, en route to St. R\u00e9my, toward the woods\u2014I wandered through, just walking and enjoying some ice cream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Tuesday, I watched it from the riverside in Arles, just above the old town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let me ask\u2014has anyone ever seen a car blasting Latin jazz as it drove by?<br>In the early 2000s, all you could hear from souped-up Ladas was the booming bass.<br>Now, every tricked-out Renault Clio spits out some rapper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If it\u2019s Wednesday, it\u2019s &#8220;bull bathing&#8221; game time in the village. In the evening, after work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I spent the afternoon in the city; visited four photography exhibitions and a bookstore.<br>Did I manage to leave the bookstore empty-handed?<br>My latest find is titled: <em>Haikus from the Seashore<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Titre en fran\u00e7ais :<\/strong><br>Semaine de travail \u00e0 Arles, avec des \u00e9chos d\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Introduction en fran\u00e7ais :<\/strong><br>Un week-end \u00e0 Nice, un samedi ensommeill\u00e9, une f\u00eate traditionnelle et des couchers de soleil dor\u00e9s \u2014 tout cela r\u00e9uni dans une seule semaine d\u2019ao\u00fbt. Des fragments de vie, des impressions fugaces. Avec des taureaux, du jazz et un livre de ha\u00efkus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Texte principal en fran\u00e7ais :<\/strong><br>Arles, semaine de travail du 9 au 13 ao\u00fbt 2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">J\u2019ai ressorti quelques notes de la semaine pass\u00e9e. Je commence par une pens\u00e9e de vendredi, juste apr\u00e8s un mini s\u00e9jour \u00e0 Nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alors, ce grand ma\u00eetre Matisse aurait repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 son propre fils comme une t\u00eate vide ? Je me demande si nous voyons la m\u00eame chose lorsque nous regardons ce tableau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De mon premier jour de travail apr\u00e8s Nice (samedi), je n\u2019ai not\u00e9 que trois mots : fatigue, go\u00fbter, sommeil. On ne peut pas tout avoir ; la petite escapade du week-end fut vraiment riche en exp\u00e9riences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dimanche, je f\u00eate d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans le village voisin. Je ne sais m\u00eame pas quoi exactement.<br>Cela ressemble \u00e0 une f\u00eate traditionnelle, comme celle que j\u2019ai vue \u00e0 Arles en juin.<br>L\u00e0 aussi, le d\u00e9fil\u00e9 commence apr\u00e8s la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit, avec des repr\u00e9sentants de divers m\u00e9tiers en costumes traditionnels \u2014 avec des d\u00e9monstrations, des danses, des chevaux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">J\u2019ai beaucoup aim\u00e9 le lieu du gala. Cette fois, ils n\u2019ont pas choisi l\u2019ar\u00e8ne ni le th\u00e9\u00e2tre, mais une clairi\u00e8re en lisi\u00e8re de for\u00eat, pr\u00e8s du moulin embl\u00e9matique du village. Seule une surface de la taille d\u2019une sc\u00e8ne \u00e9tait pav\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Encore une fois, ils ont tir\u00e9 parti de la pente \u2014 rien n\u2019est plat ici \u2014 et tout le monde avait une vue parfaite sur les danses depuis la colline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019ambiance, avec son \u00e9clairage doux et la proximit\u00e9 de la nature, conf\u00e9rait \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement une intimit\u00e9 chaleureuse.<br>M\u00eame si je n\u2019ai rien vu de nouveau, c\u2019\u00e9tait agr\u00e9able d\u2019y \u00eatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D\u2019ailleurs, le d\u00e9but tardif est une bonne id\u00e9e : \u00e0 22 h, il ne fait &#8220;plus que&#8221; 31 degr\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les mots-cl\u00e9s de lundi et mardi : coucher de soleil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lundi, en route vers St. R\u00e9my, \u00e0 travers les bois \u2014 j\u2019ai travers\u00e9 juste pour marcher un peu et manger une glace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mardi, sur les quais d\u2019Arles, au-dessus de la vieille ville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Permettez-moi de poser une question \u2014 quelqu\u2019un a-t-il d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu une voiture passer en hurlant du jazz latin ?<br>Au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 2000, tout ce qu\u2019on entendait des vieilles Lada tun\u00e9es, c\u2019\u00e9tait le grondement des basses.<br>Aujourd\u2019hui, chaque Renault Clio modifi\u00e9e crache du rap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercredi, c\u2019est le jour du jeu du &#8220;bain de taureaux&#8221; dans le village.
