at nine o\u2019clock \u2014 for the third time today \u2014 on Sam\u00e9na Hill.<br>I was already dozing in the hammock by ten last night, so I slept well.<br>Even so, after breakfast I fall back asleep at ten and wake at one in the afternoon.<br>Sam\u00e9na has two issues: thanks to the deep water + high cliff combo, even a light breeze brings massive waves; secondly, it\u2019s a hangout for gay men and women (no, they\u2019re just sunbathing); this leaves me cold as long as I\u2019m not the target audience.<br>Still, I love coming here for the upsides: no theft, no crowds, the idiots and the uncultured stay in town, and the landscape is so beautiful it belongs on a poster; although it isn\u2019t permitted here either, at least you can wild-camp.<br>After waking I consider a swim, but I don\u2019t risk it; I\u2019m neither a pro athlete nor seasoned, and I\u2019m afraid the swell will slam me into the rocks and this time I won\u2019t get away with minor scrapes.<br>Instead I stand on the lowest stones and let the two-to-three-meter waves break over me.<br>You can tell I\u2019m getting serious: first thing, I braced myself safely between two rock faces; a few years ago I would\u2019ve jumped straight into that foam, saying the surge is only strong at the base of the cliffs and you can swim farther out.<br>True, but I don\u2019t want to be scared while scrambling back to shore.<br>I relish the cool sea washing over me.<br>Better than coffee.<br>I want a real swim too, so I pack up, and by three I\u2019m landing at Bor\u00e9ly beach \u2014 my other favorite because there\u2019s a breakwater, so it\u2019s pleasant even in strong wind, and though there are plenty of people, there\u2019s nothing like the crush at, say, the Catalans beach near the city center.<br>The bag check is free here.<br>I give the staff big puppy-dog eyes because they can only take bags up to 23 liters, and mine is 32.<br>At times like this I enjoy life so much: I just drink and read.<br>The bag check closes at 6:30; after that I stay for one more beer \u2014 and with some delight I buy a ticket for the 10:30 p.m. train; it\u2019s the weekend, so there are late trains.<br>I have zero desire to rush back to everyday life, so I\u2019m not hurrying.<br>Apparently the traffic isn\u2019t either: it takes an hour to cover barely eight kilometers to downtown \u2014 which I don\u2019t mind, because my book is hitting the exciting chapters.<br>At the harbor \u2014 as planned \u2014 I wander aimlessly.<br>The Saturday-night vibe feels great; there are lots of us out.<br>Meanwhile I sip an alcohol-free cocktail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bor\u00e9ly : vent, vagues et samedi en roue libre<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">R\u00e9veil venteux \u00e0 Sam\u00e9na, grosses lames contre les rochers, puis cap sur la plage abrit\u00e9e de Bor\u00e9ly.<br>Pas de grand drame \u2014 juste une journ\u00e9e qui tombe pile.<br>Un livre, une nage, une balade sans but au port, et un mocktail pour conclure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bor\u00e9ly (Marseille) 2025.08.23., samedi.<br>Je me r\u00e9veille par grand vent ; \u00e0 neuf heures \u2014 pour la troisi\u00e8me fois de la journ\u00e9e \u2014 sur la colline de Sam\u00e9na.<br>Hier, \u00e0 dix heures, je somnolais d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans le hamac, donc j\u2019ai bien dormi.<br>Et malgr\u00e9 tout, apr\u00e8s le petit-d\u00e9j, je me rendors \u00e0 dix heures jusqu\u2019\u00e0 treize heures.<br>Sam\u00e9na a deux soucis : avec le combo eau profonde + falaise haute, il y a d\u2019\u00e9normes vagues au moindre souffle ; ensuite, c\u2019est un lieu de rendez-vous pour hommes et femmes gays (non, ici on bronze seulement) ; \u00e7a me laisse de marbre tant que je ne suis pas le \u00ab public cible \u00bb.<br>Mais j\u2019aime venir ici pour les avantages : pas de vols, pas de foule, les idiots et les incultes restent en ville, et le paysage est si beau qu\u2019il m\u00e9rite une affiche ; m\u00eame si ce n\u2019est pas autoris\u00e9 ici non plus, on peut au moins faire du bivouac sauvage.<br>Au r\u00e9veil, je tenterais bien une nage, mais je ne prends pas le risque ; je ne suis ni sportif pro ni aguerri, et je crains que la houle ne me plaque contre les rochers \u2014 je ne m\u2019en tirerais pas cette fois avec de simples \u00e9raflures.<br>Je reste donc sur les pierres les plus basses et je laisse les vagues de deux \u00e0 trois m\u00e8tres me recouvrir.<br>On voit que je me \u00ab range \u00bb : mon premier r\u00e9flexe a \u00e9t\u00e9 de me caler en s\u00e9curit\u00e9 entre deux parois ; il y a quelques ann\u00e9es, j\u2019aurais saut\u00e9 sans r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir dans cette \u00e9cume, en me disant que la houle n\u2019est forte qu\u2019au pied des rochers et qu\u2019au large on peut nager.<br>C\u2019est vrai, mais je n\u2019ai pas envie d\u2019avoir peur en regagnant le rivage.<br>Je savoure la fra\u00eecheur de la mer qui me submerge.<br>Mieux qu\u2019un caf\u00e9.<br>Je veux aussi nager pour de bon, alors je plie bagage et, \u00e0 trois heures, j\u2019atterris \u00e0 la plage de Bor\u00e9ly \u2014 mon autre pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e, car il y a un brise-lames : m\u00eame par grand vent c\u2019est agr\u00e9able, et s\u2019il y a du monde, on n\u2019y subit pas la cohue de, par exemple, la plage des Catalans pr\u00e8s du centre.<br>Ici, la consigne est gratuite.<br>Je lance de grands yeux de biche aux employ\u00e9s, car ils n\u2019acceptent que des sacs de 23 L max, et le mien en fait 32.<br>\u00c0 ces moments-l\u00e0, j\u2019adore la vie : je bois et je lis, tout simplement.<br>La consigne ferme \u00e0 18 h 30 ; ensuite je reste encore pour une bi\u00e8re \u2014 et, avec gourmandise, je prends un billet pour le train de 22 h 30 ; c\u2019est le week-end, il y a des trains tardifs.<br>Je n\u2019ai aucune envie de retourner dare-dare au quotidien, donc je ne me presse pas.<br>Apparemment, la circulation non plus : il faut une heure pour parcourir \u00e0 peine huit kilom\u00e8tres jusqu\u2019au centre \u2014 ce qui m\u2019arrange, mon livre arrive \u00e0 des chapitres palpitants.<br>Au port \u2014 comme pr\u00e9vu \u2014 je fl\u00e2ne sans but.<br>L\u2019ambiance du samedi soir fait du bien ;
