more fighting for lukewarm water.<br>Marseille is still ahead of me, sore back and all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fontvieille, 2025. 08. 29., Friday<br>When things like this happen, we might think my guardian angel has failed.<br>Yet in truth my guardian angel has reached the limit of their capacity.<br>It\u2019s about time I did something for myself.<br>I have to get up somehow.<br>I can barely feel my fingers, but that\u2019s normal; in the mornings they often go numb.<br>I sure can feel my lower back; that\u2019s normal too\u2014it\u2019s not the first time I can\u2019t pop up from lying down.<br>Time to do something for myself.<br>My arms held up well, though; no wonder, there\u2019s muscle there\u2014those took the slide.<br>The middle lane of Stalingrad Boulevard is closed; officially it\u2019s only for left turns, and to help drivers obey the no-passing rule they\u2019ve screwed small white plastic bollards onto all the solid lines\u2014so the middle lane is almost empty.<br>I clipped one of those tiny plastic posts while fiddling with the lights on my freshly refurbished bike.<br>I spent yesterday afternoon tightening bolts and fine-tuning the brakes.<br>How does Instagram put it?<br>Stand up, fix the crown, keep walking.<br>So now I get on all fours, then onto my knees, then slowly straighten up; I dust off my coat, with a sore back\u2014so clumsily\u2014haul the bike up from the asphalt, realign the handlebar; then I vow to repay my luck by wearing a helmet from now on.<br>Yes, my luck; this bike goes 25 km\/h, and I just flew off it without getting injured, my clothes didn\u2019t tear, I can keep going toward Marseille.<br>Still, this time I leave the bike at the train station; I\u2019m ten minutes late to work because of the bus transfers.<br>Today too I\u2019m doing shifts at a local restaurant; but that local gig makes no sense; it\u2019s great that with this off-the-books cash I managed to pay for the bike that\u2019s been in multiple accidents (the first was when I fell between the tram tracks\u2014but I jumped off mid-fall; only the bike needed to be hammered straight) and for the outrageously expensive Sennheiser earphones;<br>but that extra half-day a week wears me out, and today, after the fall, I feel it so much that the suffering\u2013pressure reaches the point where I say: I\u2019m
