But I\u2019m sure of one thing: I am very much alive&#8230;)<br>So, Friday\u2013Saturday are my days off. Since I wake up at six by default \u2014 whether I need to or not \u2014 today, with premeditation, I\u2019ll crawl out of bed early even on my day off so I can have lunch sitting waist-deep in the sea.<br>Waist-deep: I achieved that by sitting down in ankle-deep water. Then I took the fruit in my hands.<br>By six in the evening I was back in town. There was no point staying in Saintes-Maries, and no desire either: for a quick swim cool water is fine, but for sunbathing or loitering on the beach, twenty-five degrees isn\u2019t enough for me.<br>That\u2019s when I notice I\u2019ve adapted to the Mediterranean climate; below twenty-two I put on a sweater, and below eighteen I start looking for my winter coat.<br>So since today\u2019s goal was just a short swim \u2014 and because there\u2019s nothing on in that small village tonight anyway \u2014 I head back to the city in the afternoon. In Arles, while I wait for the next bus, I have a beer. It\u2019s handy when there\u2019s a bar at the bus stop; I read at the table closest to the bus while I wait.<br>At seven I have dinner at the hotel. Then I set out to climb the hill. In a straight line Saint-R\u00e9my is only eight kilometers, but it\u2019s on the other side of the mountain. My bike\u2019s brakes can\u2019t handle the steep descent; I\u2019m braking with my soles again.<br>There\u2019s a bodega tonight. It\u2019s part of the festival week that starts today: bulls, horses, dancers, singers, funfair, parties, a whole-town celebration.<br>So in the former bullring tonight there are beer taps, disco lights, an LED wall, a DJ, and people dancing.<br>This DJ is a bit better than an internet playlist.<br>Of course, it\u2019s all relative: it\u2019s a good night with good music; people are enjoying it, me included. It\u2019s just that we\u2019ve seen more skillful DJs.<br>I kick up dust in the arena sand until 1 a.m.<br>I hope I get more weekends like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phrases qui font taper du pied<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vendredi soir : mer, ville, montagne et ar\u00e8ne \u2014 je freine avec les semelles et je danse sur du \u00ab talpal\u00e1val\u00f3 \u00bb.<br>Avec un appareil classique, chaque d\u00e9tail compte ; \u00e0 la fin, les pieds battent le sable.<br>Belle soir\u00e9e \u2014 et j\u2019esp\u00e8re en vivre d\u2019autres comme celle-l\u00e0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saint-R\u00e9my-de-Provence, ven. 26\/09\/2025, soir\u00e9e<br>Photographier avec un bo\u00eetier classique, c\u2019est bien, parce qu\u2019on fait attention aux d\u00e9tails presque malgr\u00e9 soi.<br>Comme ce matin \u00e0 la plage : j\u2019observais les plis d\u2019une statue de taureau, les fleurs derri\u00e8re \u2014 et maintenant les feuilles des arbres \u2014, telles que les \u00e9clairent par dessous des lyres de discoth\u00e8que.<br>\u00c0 midi, de tout petits poissons nageaient autour de mes pieds dans la mer ; apr\u00e8s le d\u00eener, je descendais la route de montagne raide ; et maintenant je marque le rythme dans le sable de l\u2019ar\u00e8ne.<br>Eh oui, il faut savoir vivre !<br>(Je ne veux pas fanfaronner : je pense que la vie des autres est belle pour d\u2019autres raisons, pas moins que la mienne. En revanche, je suis certain d\u2019une chose : je vis tr\u00e8s intens\u00e9ment&#8230;)<br>Donc, vendredi\u2013samedi, c\u2019est repos. Puisque je me r\u00e9veille \u00e0 six heures automatiquement \u2014 que ce soit n\u00e9cessaire ou non \u2014, aujourd\u2019hui, de propos d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9, je sors t\u00f4t du lit m\u00eame mon jour off pour d\u00e9jeuner assis dans la mer jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la taille.<br>Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la taille : j\u2019y suis parvenu en m\u2019asseyant dans l\u2019eau jusqu\u2019aux chevilles. Ensuite, j\u2019ai pris les fruits en main.<br>\u00c0 dix-huit heures, j\u2019\u00e9tais de retour en ville. \u00c7a n\u2019aurait servi \u00e0 rien de rester \u00e0 Saintes-Maries, et je n\u2019en avais pas envie : pour une courte nage, l\u2019eau fra\u00eeche va bien, mais pour bronzer ou tra\u00eener sur la plage, vingt-cinq degr\u00e9s ne me suffisent pas.<br>C\u2019est l\u00e0 que je vois que je me suis adapt\u00e9 au climat m\u00e9diterran\u00e9en ; en dessous de vingt-deux, je mets un pull, et sous dix-huit, je commence \u00e0 chercher mon manteau d\u2019hiver.<br>Donc, comme le but du jour n\u2019\u00e9tait qu\u2019une courte baignade \u2014 et qu\u2019il n\u2019y a rien au programme dans ce petit village ce soir \u2014, je retourne en ville l\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi. \u00c0 Arles, en attendant le prochain bus, je bois une bi\u00e8re. Pratique quand le bar est \u00e0 l\u2019arr\u00eat de bus ; je lis \u00e0 la table la plus proche du car pendant l\u2019attente.<br>\u00c0 dix-neuf heures, je d\u00eene \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4tel. Puis je pars gravir la colline. \u00c0 vol d\u2019oiseau, Saint-R\u00e9my n\u2019est qu\u2019\u00e0 huit kilom\u00e8tres, mais c\u2019est l\u2019autre versant. Les freins de mon v\u00e9lo ne tiennent plus la descente raide ; je freine de nouveau avec la semelle.<br>Il y a une bodega ce soir. C\u2019est une partie de la semaine de f\u00eate qui commence : taureaux, chevaux, danseurs, chanteurs, f\u00eate foraine, soir\u00e9es, liesse g\u00e9n\u00e9rale.<br>Ainsi, dans l\u2019ancienne ar\u00e8ne de corrida, il y a ce soir des tireuses \u00e0 bi\u00e8re, des lumi\u00e8res de bo\u00eete, un mur de LED, un DJ et des gens qui dansent.<br>Ce DJ est un peu meilleur qu\u2019une simple playlist en ligne.<br>Bien s\u00fbr, tout est relatif : c\u2019est une bonne soir\u00e9e, avec de bonnes musiques ; les gens s\u2019amusent, et moi aussi.
