From now on the water is too cold\u2014except for those coming from northern countries, who in plus\u2011fifteen\u2011degree air already wear shorts, while we don coats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sunday, Monday.<\/strong><br>These days were so uneventful I can\u2019t even remember them. That doesn\u2019t mean they were bad\u2014just uninteresting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tuesday, October 7.<\/strong><br>I took my bike to the repair shop, but he\u2019s so busy that I could only get an appointment a week later just to let him look at it. Now I walk everywhere. The French are brilliant at passing tasks around. I made a complaint at two customer service desks. Marseille is still a very beautiful city, I love coming here. However, my feeling of security is weakening\u2014now even in the downtown area I see drunks shouting in the streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saturday, October 11.<\/strong><br>I wanted to make another complaint about the Samsung earphones, but I overslept and only crawled out of bed at eleven. Instead, I used the afternoon to draw up a crazy half\u2011year plan. In November I will be in Hungary\u2014but I\u2019m reluctant, because it will cost more than, say, going to Switzerland.<br>From December on, I don\u2019t know yet how I\u2019ll have money or work. But when I think about that, I laugh, because there\u2019s nothing to lose. One thing\u2019s for sure: I\u2019ll figure it out somehow.<br>Today I said a final goodbye to the maintenance girl. I\u2019m sorry she\u2019s leaving. In the evening I visited another exhibition in the quarry\u2014good experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sunday, October 12.<\/strong><br>Uneventful Sunday; I gardened. The director asked if I could make eggs for breakfast. I answered that of course, I could take the kitchen shift on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings in place of the off-duty cook.<br>Lately I often give either cheeky or cynical responses. It\u2019s no longer just that I don\u2019t want to lie; I speak without hedging what I think. Added to this is that I\u2019ve always been tired of what I considered unnecessary rounds.<br>In the afternoon I opened the door to Anna, the cleaner, wearing only a towel. The guest requested an extra bed in the room, and the receptionist didn\u2019t even know where to begin. And if neither I nor Anna is at the hotel after hours, what does the reception do?! Parfois j\u2019aime mon travail. Aujourd\u2019hui j\u2019ai tondu l\u2019herbe pr\u00e8s de la route principale, ce qui est compliqu\u00e9 ici parce que les r\u00e8gles de circulation ou de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 incendie l\u2019interdisent souvent. No comment\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jeudi 9 octobre.<\/strong><br>Aujourd\u2019hui \u00e9tait mon dernier jour de travail avec la fille de maintenance \u2014 son contrat expire. Elle me manquera. J\u2019ai aussi pris des photos de fleurs au travail. L\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi, j\u2019ai pris le bus jusqu\u2019\u00e0 St. R\u00e9my. L\u2019horaire du bus m\u2019a jou\u00e9 des tours dans les deux sens. J\u2019ai march\u00e9 deux heures et demie \u00e0 travers les collines dans l\u2019obscurit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Vendredi 10 octobre.<\/strong><br>J\u2019ai amen\u00e9 mes \u00e9couteurs Samsung cass\u00e9s au service apr\u00e8s\u2011vente. Les Fran\u00e7ais sont brillants pour refiler les t\u00e2ches. J\u2019ai port\u00e9 plainte aupr\u00e8s de deux services clients. Marseille est toujours une tr\u00e8s belle ville, j\u2019adore venir ici. Cependant, mon sentiment de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 s\u2019affaiblit \u2014 m\u00eame dans le centre, je vois des ivrognes crier dans la rue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Samedi 11 octobre.<\/strong><br>Je voulais d\u00e9poser une nouvelle plainte pour mes \u00e9couteurs Samsung, mais je me suis endormi si profond\u00e9ment que je ne suis sorti du lit qu\u2019\u00e0 onze heures. \u00c0 la place, j\u2019ai utilis\u00e9 l\u2019apr\u00e8s\u2011midi pour \u00e9tablir un plan fou pour six mois. En novembre je serai en Hongrie \u2014 mais je suis r\u00e9ticent, car cela co\u00fbtera plus que, par exemple, aller en Suisse.<br>\u00c0 partir de d\u00e9cembre, je ne sais pas encore comment j\u2019aurai de l\u2019argent ou un travail. Mais quand j\u2019y pense, je ris, car il n\u2019y a rien \u00e0 perdre. Une chose est s\u00fbre : je trouverai une solution.<br>Aujourd\u2019hui j\u2019ai dit un adieu d\u00e9finitif \u00e0 la fille de maintenance. Je regrette qu\u2019elle parte. Le soir, je suis all\u00e9 voir une autre expo dans la carri\u00e8re \u2014 c\u2019\u00e9tait bien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dimanche 12 octobre.<\/strong><br>Dimanche sans \u00e9v\u00e9nements ; j\u2019ai fait du jardinage. Le directeur m\u2019a demand\u00e9 si je savais pr\u00e9parer des \u0153ufs pour le petit\u2011d\u00e9jeuner. J\u2019ai r\u00e9pondu que bien s\u00fbr, je pouvais prendre le poste en cuisine mardi et mercredi matin \u00e0 la place du cuisinier en cong\u00e9.<br>Derni\u00e8rement, je donne souvent des r\u00e9ponses soit impertinentes, soit cyniques. Ce n\u2019est plus seulement que je ne veux pas mentir ; je dis sans d\u00e9tour ce que je pense. \u00c0 cela s\u2019ajoute que j\u2019ai toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 fatigu\u00e9 des cercles que je jugeais inutiles.<br>L\u2019apr\u00e8s\u2011midi, j\u2019ai ouvert la porte \u00e0 Anna, la femme de m\u00e9nage, portant seulement une serviette. L\u2019invit\u00e9 a demand\u00e9 un lit d\u2019appoint dans la chambre, et la r\u00e9ceptionniste ne savait m\u00eame pas par o\u00f9 commencer. Et si ni moi ni Anna ne sommes \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4tel hors des heures, que fait la r\u00e9ception ?!
