The Les Monument&rsquo;Arles weekend proves once again that this town is truly a haven for creative souls. A magical blend of light, music, aerial art and theatre \u2013 all under the open sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Les Monument&rsquo;Arles<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a weekend-long event, running from Friday to Sunday \u2013 and not for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this town, every month brings a cultural festival. So it\u2019s no surprise the mayor likes to call it \u201cthe capital of culture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It confirms my feeling that this really is a place for little artistic souls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Friday night, I saw the opening show. In front of the town hall, a man played the piano one storey up, with the piano\u2019s top standing vertically. His partner danced \u2013 sometimes on the piano, sometimes in mid-air, suspended on a rope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I got lucky with the closing show \u2013 it didn\u2019t rain while I was biking and the show was on. It was also held outdoors, in the arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I had to categorize it, I\u2019d call it a modern circus performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The acrobats danced or performed acrobatic stunts \u2013 sometimes both at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The entire theme was about light and fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They turned the arena\u2019s sandy floor into a giant living room, filled with way more floor and reading lamps than necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The background dancers were even dressed as giant reading lamps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They used the huge space very effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They brought in massive smoke machines. During the acrobatic scenes, tiny red heart-shaped confetti rained down for minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the most intense parts of the show, fireworks were launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was fire swallowing, torch tossing, and dancing with Greek fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They played with lights too. For example, when dancing with a giant hula hoop, they dimmed the lights \u2013 but lit up the LED strip on the hoop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end, it made sense why one-third of the arena was closed off: from the empty seats, they launched a five-minute firework show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The arena is in the densest, 2,000-year-old part of the city. It was dramatic how the sound echoed through the old town \u2013 a rare sight, fireworks launched from inside the walls, directly above our heads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The smoke lingered inside the arena, and above the colored clouds shimmered the sparks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So yes \u2013 it was a great show!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arles, Sunday, 2025.10.19<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Une ville culturelle s\u2019anime le temps d\u2019un week-end<\/strong><br>Arles n\u2019est pas seulement riche en histoire, elle vibre aussi au rythme des arts. Le week-end des Monument&rsquo;Arles en est la preuve \u00e9clatante : ici, la culture prend vraiment vie. Un spectacle \u00e0 ciel ouvert m\u00ealant feu, lumi\u00e8re, danse et acrobaties a\u00e9riennes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Les Monument&rsquo;Arles<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">C\u2019est un \u00e9v\u00e9nement qui se d\u00e9roule du vendredi au dimanche \u2013 ce n\u2019est pas la premi\u00e8re \u00e9dition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans cette ville, chaque mois accueille un festival culturel. Il n\u2019est donc pas \u00e9tonnant que le maire la qualifie de \u00ab capitale de la culture \u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cela confirme mon impression : c\u2019est un lieu fait pour les \u00e2mes artistiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vendredi soir, j\u2019ai assist\u00e9 au spectacle d\u2019ouverture. Devant l\u2019h\u00f4tel de ville, un homme jouait du piano \u00e0 un \u00e9tage de hauteur, avec le piano plac\u00e9 \u00e0 la verticale. Sa partenaire dansait \u2013 tant\u00f4t sur le piano, tant\u00f4t suspendue \u00e0 une corde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">J\u2019ai eu de la chance avec le spectacle de cl\u00f4ture \u2013 il n\u2019a pas plu pendant que je faisais du v\u00e9lo et que la repr\u00e9sentation avait lieu. Elle se tenait \u00e9galement en plein air, dans l\u2019ar\u00e8ne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Si je devais la classer, je dirais que c\u2019\u00e9tait une performance de cirque moderne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les acrobates dansaient ou ex\u00e9cutaient des figures acrobatiques \u2013 parfois les deux en m\u00eame temps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le th\u00e8me principal \u00e9tait la lumi\u00e8re et le feu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019ar\u00e8ne avait \u00e9t\u00e9 transform\u00e9e en un immense salon, avec beaucoup plus de lampes que n\u00e9cessaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">M\u00eame les danseurs de fond \u00e9taient d\u00e9guis\u00e9s en grandes lampes de lecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L\u2019espace immense a \u00e9t\u00e9 parfaitement exploit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ils ont apport\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9normes machines \u00e0 fum\u00e9e. Pendant les num\u00e9ros acrobatiques, de petits confettis en forme de c\u0153ur rouge tombaient du ciel pendant plusieurs minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aux moments les plus intenses, des feux d\u2019artifice \u00e9taient tir\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Il y avait de l\u2019avalage de feu, des lancers de torches, et une danse avec le feu grec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ils ont aussi jou\u00e9 avec les lumi\u00e8res. Par exemple, pendant la danse avec un immense cerceau lumineux, les lumi\u00e8res de l\u2019ar\u00e8ne \u00e9taient \u00e9teintes, mais les LED du cerceau s\u2019allumaient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00c0 la fin, on comprenait pourquoi un tiers de l\u2019ar\u00e8ne \u00e9tait ferm\u00e9 : un feu d\u2019artifice de cinq minutes a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9 depuis les gradins vides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette ar\u00e8ne est situ\u00e9e au c\u0153ur de la vieille ville, dans une zone vieille de deux mille ans.
