Four months of living out of a backpack, counting every gram and every euro while hunting for gifts for half of Europe. These days feel like a mix of farewells, preparations and small celebrations scattered across Provence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pont du Gard, 24\/10\/2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was a sporty day off. I cycled up the hill where I admired a beautiful Roman bridge. Pleasant exhaustion and a flood of impressions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arles, Cargo de Nuit concert club, 25\/10\/2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was otherwise a completely average working Saturday, during which I spent a long time thinking about whether to go to the flamenco theatre or a funk concert. In the end, the almost thirty-euro ticket price decided the question \u2013 it was the same for both. In Barcelona I\u2019ve already seen absolutely fantastic shows for twenty-five and even eight euros; I don\u2019t know if that can be topped. But the funk concert had a great vibe; I didn\u2019t regret my choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Souvenir Hunt Begins, Sunday, 26\/10\/2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That afternoon I was at the castle of Les Baux, where I also saw a beautiful sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later note: I bought and posted all the gifts, and it might still happen that I arrive to the people I\u2019m giving them to before the parcels reach Hungary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les Baux-de-Provence, 27\/10\/2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The morning when, once again, I took Instagram-favourite photos while working: terrace, swimming pool, sunrise, pink clouds in a single shot. The afternoon was not quite as magical; I entrusted my up-to-now still-under-warranty phone to a diligent Arab shopkeeper so he could repair the connector. The USB port has probably started to rust; that\u2019s almost exactly how my previous phone died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saint-R\u00e9my-de-Provence, 28\/10\/2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After work I cycled over the hill to the other side, simply because I love that town: if I had a lot of money, I would move there. Since I was already there, I once again admired every single stone of the old town and even bought more souvenirs, this time tiny soaps. Here you can buy souvenirs with a good price\u2013quality ratio: high quality at a high price. Since my list is long, I only buy keyring-sized things. Yet you could furnish an entire palace from this old town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of the day I sat down in the local bar where the locals also come to hang out. I wouldn\u2019t call the guy there shy so much as cowardly. He arrives to meet three girls; they\u2019re waiting for him, and, contrary to local custom, he greets them not with three kisses but with a high five. On the big sofa he doesn\u2019t sit down next to the girl, he perches on the armrest instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wednesday, 29\/10\/2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My thoughts are already very much circling around the last working day. I\u2019ve already done a test pack; I\u2019ve decided that I\u2019m going to live out of a single backpack for four months. At the same time, I\u2019ve started sending messages like crazy. Not to the people you\u2019re \u201csupposed\u201d to write to, but to the ones I actually enjoy talking with. I don\u2019t care about social obligations; if I don\u2019t feel good in someone\u2019s company, I don\u2019t write to them. I didn\u2019t get my freedom in order to waste it on people who drain me. For me, this is also a form of respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Avignon, Twice Over, 30\/10\/2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The day when the move shifts into high gear. At the beginning of the week I had already sorted my stuff into what I definitely want to keep and what deserves to be thrown out. So today I went to Avignon twice and to my newly rented storage unit on the edge of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friday, 31\/10\/2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This day, too, is filled with Avignon photos. I did two more runs for the move today. The distance between Les-Baux-de-PCE and Avignon is thirty kilometres by car. I, on the other hand, travelled by bus in the morning, and in the afternoon by bike and then by train. It\u2019s three kilometres to the bus stop, and I was dragging huge suitcases behind me. In the afternoon I threw my indestructible hiking backpack on my back. With a car I could move everything in a single trip; this way I\u2019ll still have a few more evening runs with the backpack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Avignon, 05\/11\/2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jours en mosa\u00efque en Provence<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Journ\u00e9e sportive au Pont du Gard, concert funk \u00e0 Arles, coucher de soleil \u00e0 Les Baux, savons de Saint-R\u00e9my, et en arri\u00e8re-plan le d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement vers Avignon qui s\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e8re peu \u00e0 peu. Quatre mois \u00e0 vivre avec un seul sac \u00e0 dos, en comptant chaque gramme et chaque euro tout en chassant des cadeaux pour la moiti\u00e9 de l\u2019Europe. Ces jours-l\u00e0 ressemblent \u00e0 un m\u00e9lange d\u2019adieux, de pr\u00e9paratifs et de petites f\u00eates \u00e9parpill\u00e9es aux quatre coins de la Provence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pont du Gard, 24.10.2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">C\u2019\u00e9tait un jour de cong\u00e9 sportif. Je suis mont\u00e9 \u00e0 v\u00e9lo sur la colline o\u00f9 j\u2019ai admir\u00e9 un magnifique pont romain. Une fatigue agr\u00e9able et une foule d\u2019impressions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arles, salle de concert Cargo de Nuit, 25.10.2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sinon, une journ\u00e9e de travail de samedi tout \u00e0 fait normale, pendant laquelle j\u2019ai longuement h\u00e9sit\u00e9 entre aller au th\u00e9\u00e2tre de flamenco ou \u00e0 un concert de funk. Finalement, c\u2019est le prix du billet \u2013 presque trente euros dans les deux cas \u2013 qui a tranch\u00e9. \u00c0 Barcelone, j\u2019ai d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu des spectacles absolument fantastiques pour vingt-cinq, voire huit euros ; je ne sais pas si l\u2019on peut vraiment faire mieux. En tout cas, le concert de funk avait une excellente ambiance ; je n\u2019ai pas regrett\u00e9 mon choix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Top d\u00e9part pour la chasse aux souvenirs, dimanche 26.10.2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cet apr\u00e8s-midi-l\u00e0, j\u2019\u00e9tais au ch\u00e2teau des Baux, o\u00f9 j\u2019ai aussi vu un superbe coucher de soleil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note ult\u00e9rieure : j\u2019ai achet\u00e9 et post\u00e9 tous les cadeaux, et il se peut tr\u00e8s bien que j\u2019arrive chez les destinataires avant que les colis n\u2019atteignent la Hongrie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les Baux-de-Provence, 27.10.2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le matin o\u00f9 j\u2019ai de nouveau pris des photos dignes d\u2019Instagram pendant le travail : terrasse, piscine, lever de soleil et nuages roses sur une seule image. L\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi \u00e9tait moins idyllique ; j\u2019ai confi\u00e9 mon t\u00e9l\u00e9phone encore sous garantie \u00e0 un commer\u00e7ant arabe consciencieux pour qu\u2019il r\u00e9pare le connecteur. Le port USB a probablement commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 rouiller ; c\u2019est presque exactement comme \u00e7a que mon pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent t\u00e9l\u00e9phone a rendu l\u2019\u00e2me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saint-R\u00e9my-de-Provence, 28.10.2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apr\u00e8s le travail, j\u2019ai travers\u00e9 la colline \u00e0 v\u00e9lo, simplement parce que j\u2019adore cette ville : si j\u2019avais beaucoup d\u2019argent, j\u2019irai y vivre. Puisque j\u2019y \u00e9tais, j\u2019ai de nouveau admir\u00e9 chaque pierre du centre historique et j\u2019ai encore achet\u00e9 des souvenirs, cette fois de petits savons. Ici, on peut trouver des souvenirs avec un bon rapport qualit\u00e9\u2013prix : haute qualit\u00e9, prix \u00e9lev\u00e9. Comme ma liste est longue, je n\u2019ach\u00e8te que des objets de la taille d\u2019un porte-cl\u00e9s. Pourtant, avec ce centre-ville, on pourrait am\u00e9nager tout un palais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En fin de journ\u00e9e, je me suis install\u00e9 dans le bar du coin, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 les habitants viennent aussi s\u2019amuser. Le gars que j\u2019ai observ\u00e9, je ne le qualifierais pas de timide, mais de l\u00e2che. Il arrive dans un groupe de trois filles ; elles l\u2019attendent, et contrairement aux habitudes locales, il ne les salue pas avec trois bises, mais avec un check. Sur le grand canap\u00e9, il ne s\u2019assoit pas \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la fille, il pr\u00e9f\u00e8re se percher sur l\u2019accoudoir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mercredi, 29.10.2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mes pens\u00e9es tournent d\u00e9j\u00e0 beaucoup autour du dernier jour de travail. J\u2019ai d\u00e9j\u00e0 fait un essai de bagage ; j\u2019ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de vivre pendant quatre mois avec un seul sac \u00e0 dos. En parall\u00e8le, j\u2019ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 envoyer des messages tous azimuts. Pas \u00e0 ceux \u00e0 qui il serait \u00ab poli \u00bb d\u2019\u00e9crire, mais \u00e0 ceux avec qui j\u2019aime vraiment discuter. Les convenances m\u2019importent peu ; si je ne me sens pas bien en compagnie de quelqu\u2019un, je ne lui \u00e9cris pas. Je n\u2019ai pas \u00ab re\u00e7u \u00bb ma libert\u00e9 pour la gaspiller sur des personnes qui m\u2019\u00e9puisent. Pour moi, c\u2019est aussi une forme de respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Avignon, en double, 30.10.2025<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le jour o\u00f9 le d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement passe \u00e0 la vitesse sup\u00e9rieure. Au d\u00e9but de la semaine, j\u2019avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 tri\u00e9 mes affaires entre ce que je veux absolument garder et ce qui m\u00e9rite d\u2019\u00eatre jet\u00e9. J\u2019ai encore fait deux allers-retours pour le d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement. La distance entre Les-Baux-de-PCE et Avignon est de trente kilom\u00e8tres en voiture. Moi, le matin, j\u2019ai pris le bus, et l\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi le v\u00e9lo, puis le train. Il y a trois kilom\u00e8tres jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019arr\u00eat de bus, et je tirais derri\u00e8re moi d\u2019\u00e9normes valises. L\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi, j\u2019ai mis sur mon dos mon sac de randonn\u00e9e indestructible.
