Read one after another, they turn into a messy but recognisable map of this autumn. There\u2019s Pont du Gard, funky concerts, immigration offices and pink sunsets \u2013 which is more or less what my life looks like right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I found a few stray notes in my phone, and I\u2019m going to show them to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2025-09-25<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The colour schemes of my blog pages haven\u2019t changed for years. Wherever free templates allowed it, I tuned them to blue\u2013black. I really should go through and fine-tune them again.<br>In the past I had a separate menu item for those few posts that I\u2019d translated into English or French with my own hands. For lack of time, these are now done by artificial intelligence. It would be great to make them searchable somehow for foreign readers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2025-09-26<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a ridiculous number of questions about my future. On 26 September, for example, I was taking notes about trying to rent a local flat. It seems to be exactly as hard as getting a mortgage in Budapest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2025-10-03<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By this day I had already decided that I would spend November in Hungary. I started writing down the names of people I can talk to in such a way that I don\u2019t notice time passing. Kr<em>, Il<\/em>; Csi<em>, Or<\/em>, Zo<em>, R\u00e9<\/em>, Ir*, and I could go on and on. Some of these are people I haven\u2019t seen for at least five years.<br>On the other hand, there are people I also like and respect a lot, but we don\u2019t have many topics in common; I miss them too. Still, in my \u201cappointment-scheduling strategy\u201d they\u2019ve been moved down to the second tier (still a place on the podium).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2025-10-11<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I became a fan of paintings, graphics and photographs so gradually that I didn\u2019t even notice when it happened. This is clearly the influence of Aix-en-Provence and Arles.<br>Arles wants to be the capital of culture; even now it already has, among other things, a famous photography and graphics festival. Aix is a university town, and the phrase that comes to mind first is \u201cpicturesque surroundings\u201d \u2013 not only because it\u2019s a university town, but because it\u2019s also a favourite of quite a few world-famous artists. I bought, for example, that five-euro C\u00e9zanne placemat here, whose original painting he drew on a nearby hillside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2025-10-11<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And again: images. This time in the former quarry of Les Baux-de-Provence, where I could admire, among many other things, Van Gogh\u2019s paintings in a 3D projection. I caught myself thinking that if I drank as much absinthe as he did, maybe I\u2019d see the same images in my head \u2013 though that still wouldn\u2019t give me his talent.<br>This is where I realised that I myself have walked through quite a few of the places where those paintings were made, here in the present; I was just as amazed by them as he was. I have photo series instead \u2013 for example, of the terraces on the Forum square, of almond trees that haven\u2019t died yet, of the starry sky, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2025-10-11<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fact that Hemingway\u2019s work popped into my mind while I was looking at world-famous painters says a lot about how scattered my brain is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2025-10-11<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s also been confirmed that I respect and admire Arab culture and history. And the sentence is exactly right like that. After that, the bookshop finally became a place where it\u2019s not embarrassing to be Hungarian.
