Today it was all token tasks, while quietly I packed my life into one last bag and a few boxes. After the final handshake, five minutes later I can\u2019t help grinning: this really is over now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s over,<br>yay!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By today only make-believe tasks were left, so I could get away with tidying my room during working hours and packing my last bag for departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I spent three hours hiding behind the tennis court, writing messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I switched off the third hot-water tank as well, then the owner\u2019s husband came and checked every single switch. For the pool, a specialised guy turned up whose job was to winterise it properly. So I\u2019d basically worked for nothing on Sunday and Monday. They could have told me they don\u2019t value me as anything more than a garden labourer, and then I wouldn\u2019t have busted my ass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By now I can calmly acknowledge that I read the situation correctly: they look down on me here, so I have no future in this place. If that hadn\u2019t been clear before, it\u2019s crystal clear now: I won\u2019t be coming back, even though I really fell in love with this bit of geography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m also quite sure that the head of the cleaners will go over my room in detail, analyse it and criticise it \u2013 just like she\u2019s done after every single departing colleague. And right as I was thinking this, she turned up with the owner (whose pussy she literally licks shiny \u2013 really; I once saw her staggering out of the owner\u2019s room around half past four in the morning).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The owner says she needs to come into my room because she has to take photos of the damp patches on the walls. From my now slightly detached outsider\u2019s calm I can only note what a creative excuse this is, especially since she has every right to enter my room at any time as long as I\u2019m present. So I tell her: this is your house, you can enter my room whenever you like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The owner comments that I did a great job painting the walls and dealing with the damp. Right behind her right butt cheek walks the head of the cleaners, whispering to her that \u201cwe\u2019ll throw out the bedding, the fridge is dirty, and so is the bathroom\u201d, and then the owner dutifully passes this on to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I grabbed a bottle of bleach and splashed it around the fridge and the bathroom; the rest I don\u2019t care about. I\u2019m not going to work extra for nothing, especially when I know she\u2019ll be cleaning my room with theatrical disgust over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But all this doesn\u2019t really affect me anymore, because this is over; this story is done for good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At a quarter to five I crawl out from behind the tennis court and say goodbye to Aude, who until now was head of reception and from now on will be running the hotel (finally the right person in the right place!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019d already handed in my keys during the day and collected my tips. I might add that the few euros of tips from the first and second of November mysteriously disappeared. I hope they spend it on heart medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Exactly at 17:00, the last handshake; I\u2019m a good actress, I don\u2019t grin in their faces \u2013 only five minutes later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">C\u2019est fini, youpi ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Je raconte mon dernier jour dans un endroit o\u00f9, depuis des semaines, je sens bien qu\u2019on me m\u00e9prise, et pourtant je termine correctement le travail qu\u2019on me confie. Aujourd\u2019hui, il ne restait plus que des t\u00e2ches de fa\u00e7ade, pendant que je rangeais tranquillement ma vie dans un dernier sac et quelques cartons. Apr\u00e8s la poign\u00e9e de main finale, cinq minutes plus tard, je ne peux plus retenir mon sourire : cette histoire est vraiment finie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">C\u2019est fini,<br>youpi !<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aujourd\u2019hui, il ne restait plus que des activit\u00e9s de fa\u00e7ade, ce qui m\u2019a laiss\u00e9 le temps de ranger ma chambre pendant les heures de travail et de pr\u00e9parer mon dernier sac pour le d\u00e9part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">J\u2019ai pass\u00e9 trois heures \u00e0 me cacher derri\u00e8re le court de tennis \u00e0 \u00e9crire des messages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">J\u2019ai \u00e9teint le troisi\u00e8me ballon d\u2019eau chaude, puis le mari de la propri\u00e9taire est venu v\u00e9rifier tous les interrupteurs un par un. Pour la piscine, un technicien est venu expr\u00e8s pour l\u2019hivernage. Autrement dit, j\u2019ai travaill\u00e9 pour rien dimanche et lundi. On aurait pu me dire qu\u2019on ne me consid\u00e8re pas comme plus qu\u2019un simple man\u0153uvre de jardin, dans ce cas je ne me serais pas autant cass\u00e9 la t\u00eate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aujourd\u2019hui, je constate sans ciller que j\u2019avais bien analys\u00e9 la situation : ici, on me regarde de haut, donc je n\u2019ai aucun avenir dans cet endroit. Si ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas encore \u00e9vident, maintenant c\u2019est certain : je ne reviendrai pas, m\u00eame si je suis tomb\u00e9e amoureuse de cette r\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Je suis tout aussi certaine que la cheffe des femmes de m\u00e9nage passera ma chambre au peigne fin, l\u2019analysera et la critiquera \u2013 comme elle l\u2019a fait pour tous les coll\u00e8gues qui sont partis avant moi. Et au moment o\u00f9 je pense \u00e7a, elle appara\u00eet justement avec la patronne (qu\u2019elle lui l\u00e8che litt\u00e9ralement la chatte jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la faire briller \u2013 vraiment ; je l\u2019ai vue une fois tituber hors de sa chambre vers quatre heures et demie du matin).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La patronne me dit qu\u2019elle doit entrer dans ma chambre pour photographier les murs humides. Avec le calme d\u2019une quasi \u00e9trang\u00e8re, je ne peux que noter \u00e0 quel point c\u2019est une excuse cr\u00e9ative, alors qu\u2019elle a le droit \u2013 en ma pr\u00e9sence \u2013 d\u2019entrer dans ma chambre quand elle veut. Je lui r\u00e9ponds donc que c\u2019est sa maison, qu\u2019elle peut entrer \u00e0 tout moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La propri\u00e9taire remarque que j\u2019ai tr\u00e8s bien repeint les murs et trait\u00e9 l\u2019humidit\u00e9. Juste derri\u00e8re sa fesse droite, la cheffe des femmes de m\u00e9nage la suit et lui souffle : \u00ab la literie, on la jette, le frigo est sale, la salle de bains aussi \u00bb, et la patronne me r\u00e9p\u00e8te tout \u00e7a ensuite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">J\u2019ai attrap\u00e9 un bidon d\u2019eau de Javel et j\u2019en ai asperg\u00e9 le frigo et la salle de bains ; le reste ne m\u2019int\u00e9resse pas. Je ne vais pas travailler pour rien, alors que je sais qu\u2019elle va nettoyer ma chambre dans les prochaines semaines avec un d\u00e9go\u00fbt soigneusement th\u00e9\u00e2tral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mais tout \u00e7a ne m\u2019atteint plus : c\u2019est fini, cette histoire est termin\u00e9e pour de bon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00c0 cinq heures moins le quart, je sors de ma cachette derri\u00e8re le court de tennis et je dis au revoir \u00e0 Aude, qui jusqu\u2019ici \u00e9tait cheffe de la r\u00e9ception et qui devient maintenant directrice de l\u2019h\u00f4tel (enfin la bonne personne au bon poste !).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">J\u2019avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rendu mes cl\u00e9s dans la journ\u00e9e et r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9 mes pourboires. Je note au passage que les quelques euros de pourboire des 1er et 2 novembre se sont volatilis\u00e9s.
