So it\u2019s Neo-Citran, a warm restroom, questionable sandwiches, and a full-on carry-on \u201cstrip show\u201d just to make it to the gate. And then, above a carpet of clouds, the day somehow becomes beautiful again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">English body<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is how I arrive in Hurghada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A bathroom nap, with white powders<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019d assume that at one of Europe\u2019s best airports the entry gate runs 24\/7\u2014like at so many smaller and larger airports around the world\u2014but it doesn\u2019t! They did solve 24\/7 public transport here\u2014which even the huge Istanbul airport hasn\u2019t managed smoothly\u2014yet there, perhaps for exactly that reason, the duty-free area operates day and night. So I can enter the protected, secure zone and rest until morning in a quiet corner, reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, I didn\u2019t even double-check this info\u2014it seemed so obvious that if the bus brings me there, I\u2019ll be able to get in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So after a big mug of Neo-Citran powder drink, I fall asleep for two hours in the spotless restroom. People like me are already camping out on the benches in the lobby. At least it\u2019s warm in the bathroom. I lower the lid and rest my feet on my bag. This is the best available place to sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s all the positives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What a great airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At three a.m., I\u2019m finally allowed into the SkyCourt waiting hall. To be fair, they really make a system out of keeping everything fast and smooth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Management at Budapest Airport really did receive a \u201cBest Airport in Europe\u201d award. Deservedly. Now it\u2019s operated by a French group, VINCI. They run many airports and highways abroad. Even if they aren\u2019t always fast and seamless, they\u2019re efficient. Even if their facilities aren\u2019t always the very best, they work. At most, I\u2019m curious what the difference will be between being in a partnership with the French state\u2014and, compared to that, operating under Hungarian ownership, where they can\u2019t exactly say anything bad about the owners.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By four a.m., Caf\u00e9 Frei\u2019s Asian employee is loudly announcing in perfectly understandable Hungarian that strawberry-scented tea with honey is ready. Another Neo-Citran follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(I\u2019d like to get over this cold.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fast chargers under the benches are a huge help for anyone who\u2019s known for a while now what it\u2019s like to live without a nightstand next to the bed. So yes, I could complain when the little shop next door sells airport sandwiches for two thousand forints\u2014but the real issue is that it looks about as fresh as my grandma\u2019s knuckles. The cashier can\u2019t look me in the eye when she says the protein bar will be one thousand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Strip Show<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alright then\u2014let\u2019s get ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the restroom I put on my shorts, then three shirts on top (I don\u2019t even button them), then my other two pairs of long trousers. After that comes the sweater, the scarf, the vest, the coat. All the power banks and cables go in the vest pockets; documents and money inside the coat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 Just leave it. It\u2019s always the ones who are fine that they make test it.<br>\u2013 Don\u2019t take it personally. At other airports they leave you alone if you put your bag into the size frame in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not a bad idea that I board last\u2014again. I grab the first empty row I see. Because once the last passenger sits down, the well-informed travelers begin the great seat-swapping performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Me? I start undressing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the time the plane taxis out, I\u2019m down to one thin pair of pants and a shirt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A recurring dream<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a kid, we lived near an airport. Ever since then, I\u2019ve had this recurring dream: looking at the sun with the clouds below me. The first time I saw it in real life was over Vienna at seven in the morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They just chimed seven o\u2019clock. A carpet of clouds floats under me, and I\u2019m perched on top of it. The sunrise hums, in Ornella Vanoni\u2019s silky voice, that life is beautiful just as it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes\u2014life really is a miracle. Especially after yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I wake up above the desert. I watch the tip of the Sinai Peninsula through the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hurghada, 2025.12.05.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sieste dans les toilettes de l\u2019a\u00e9roport<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On s\u2019imagine qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019un des \u201cmeilleurs\u201d a\u00e9roports d\u2019Europe, on peut entrer jour et nuit\u2014eh bien non. Alors : Neo-Citran, chaleur des toilettes, sandwich douteux et \u201cshow\u201d de v\u00eatements pour survivre jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019embarquement. Et puis, au-dessus d\u2019un tapis de nuages, tout redevient \u00e9tonnamment beau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Texte fran\u00e7ais<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voil\u00e0 comment j\u2019arrive \u00e0 Hurghada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sieste dans les toilettes, avec des poudres blanches<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On pourrait croire que dans l\u2019un des meilleurs a\u00e9roports d\u2019Europe, les portes d\u2019acc\u00e8s fonctionnent 24 h\/24, comme dans tant d\u2019a\u00e9roports plus petits ou plus grands dans le monde\u2026 mais non ! Ici, ils ont bien r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 assurer les transports publics jour et nuit\u2014ce que m\u00eame l\u2019immense a\u00e9roport d\u2019Istanbul n\u2019a pas totalement r\u00e9ussi sans accroc\u2014mais l\u00e0-bas, peut-\u00eatre justement pour cette raison, la zone duty-free fonctionne 24 h\/24. Donc je peux entrer dans la zone prot\u00e9g\u00e9e, s\u00e9curis\u00e9e, et trouver un coin calme pour me reposer et lire jusqu\u2019au matin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ici, je n\u2019ai m\u00eame pas v\u00e9rifi\u00e9 cette info : c\u2019\u00e9tait tellement \u00e9vident que si le bus m\u2019y d\u00e9pose, je pourrai aussi entrer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bref, apr\u00e8s une grande tasse de boisson Neo-Citran en poudre, je m\u2019endors deux heures dans des toilettes pourtant impeccables. Dans le hall, d\u2019autres comme moi campent d\u00e9j\u00e0 sur les bancs. Au moins, dans les toilettes, il fait chaud. Je baisse le couvercle et je pose mes pieds sur mon sac. C\u2019est le meilleur endroit disponible pour se reposer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voil\u00e0 tous les points positifs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quel a\u00e9roport, vraiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00c0 trois heures du matin, on me laisse enfin entrer dans le hall d\u2019attente SkyCourt. Ceci dit, ils font vraiment un syst\u00e8me pour que tout aille vite et sans accroc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(L\u2019ancienne direction de l\u2019a\u00e9roport de Budapest a r\u00e9ellement re\u00e7u un prix du type \u00ab meilleur a\u00e9roport d\u2019Europe \u00bb. \u00c0 juste titre. Aujourd\u2019hui, c\u2019est un groupe fran\u00e7ais, VINCI, qui l\u2019exploite. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger, ils g\u00e8rent beaucoup d\u2019a\u00e9roports et d\u2019autoroutes.
