September 17, 2023, Sunday

I’ll start with Saturday night when I found out that the Avignon market is also on Sunday morning. It was already past midnight when I returned from rollerblading. Z and I had a little snack party, then we decided to take the first bus. The alarm rang at six, but we postponed the early wake-up and our trip to Avignon. In the morning, we went to the flea market in the neighboring village. It’s not a big market, but still interesting. The plan was to have breakfast, then take a bus to Arles and swim in the river. However, he found a bike. He paid fifty euros for a racing bike, which we estimate could be worth five hundred euros. A cyclist told him that just the front wheel is worth more than fifty euros. Z immediately jumped on the saddle and galloped back to the hotel. I bought a flower, which I hope will still be alive in the shady room until the end of November. After lunch, we set off again towards Arles. We stopped halfway in Fontveille. There was also a flea market there. It was a larger, bustling market. Full of exciting things. We talked about how if we had a house, we could furnish it here. I don’t have a home, I just bought a shirt, a polo, and a belt for ten euros. It’s a ridiculously low amount. To my biggest surprise, Z bought water at the store!

In Arles, we arrived at the end of the rice festival. The main street was full of tents, vendors. We saw car, dance, traditional costume, and sports demonstrations among them, and in total, we found two tents about the famous Camargue rice. We didn’t understand the concept, but the atmosphere was excellent. It was already late afternoon, so after a beer and a walk in the city center, we headed back. Halfway, in Fontvieille, we stopped. We had dinner from the previously purchased cheeses and salamis. Z was on his fifth beer, I was on my second. It’s a big achievement for him to only drink five beers until eight in the evening. If he drank only this much every day, there would be no problem. Cycling occupied his mind. And well, I could hardly keep up with my rollerblades at the store where he bought beer. In the remaining part of the journey, I had to motivate him. He was tired. It was a good day. You can do great activities with Z if he doesn’t drink. He’s a fantastic conversation partner until the fifth beer.

At lunch, the hotel managers explained that they want to close the Fontvieille worker accommodation. For me, this means that I won’t have a separate room until November. I have to live with an alcoholic. On the other hand, Bea will move into the neighboring room. Among other things, I wanted to come here in the summer to make it easier for me to move on after the rejection. Now she’ll be here again – unless she quits by then. I can’t accuse the hotel managers of being incorrect, because – you see – my contract mentions a bed, not a room. But I definitely accuse them of lying! Every single time they promised that I would only have to share the room for two weeks – they knew very well that I was on the verge of quitting. How much easier it would have been if in May they had said: this is a dormitory, get used to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

17 septembre 2023, dimanche

Je commence par samedi soir, quand il s’est av\u00e9r\u00e9 que le march\u00e9 d’Avignon a \u00e9galement lieu le dimanche matin. Il \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 minuit pass\u00e9 quand je suis rentr\u00e9 de ma s\u00e9ance de roller. Z et moi avons fait une petite f\u00eate en guise de go\u00fbter, puis nous avons d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de prendre le premier bus. Le r\u00e9veil a sonn\u00e9 \u00e0 six heures, mais nous avons repouss\u00e9 le r\u00e9veil matinal et notre voyage \u00e0 Avignon. Le matin, nous sommes all\u00e9s au march\u00e9 aux puces du village voisin. Ce n’est pas un grand march\u00e9, mais il est tout de m\u00eame int\u00e9ressant. Le plan \u00e9tait de prendre le petit d\u00e9jeuner, puis de prendre un bus pour Arles et de nager dans la rivi\u00e8re. Cependant, il a trouv\u00e9 un v\u00e9lo. Il a pay\u00e9 cinquante euros pour un v\u00e9lo de course, que nous estimons valoir cinq cents euros. Un cycliste lui a dit que rien que la roue avant vaut plus de cinquante euros. Z s’est imm\u00e9diatement mis en selle et a fonc\u00e9 de retour \u00e0 l’h\u00f4tel. J’ai achet\u00e9 une fleur, que j’esp\u00e8re voir vivre dans la chambre ombrag\u00e9e jusqu’\u00e0 la fin novembre. Apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9jeuner, nous sommes repartis en direction d’Arles. Nous nous sommes arr\u00eat\u00e9s \u00e0 mi-chemin \u00e0 Fontveille. Il y avait aussi un march\u00e9 aux puces l\u00e0-bas. C’\u00e9tait un march\u00e9 plus grand et anim\u00e9. Plein de choses int\u00e9ressantes. Nous avons discut\u00e9 du fait que si nous avions une maison, nous pourrions la meubler ici. Je n’ai pas de chez-moi, j’ai juste achet\u00e9 une chemise, un polo et une ceinture pour dix euros. C’est une somme ridiculement basse. \u00c0 ma plus grande surprise, Z a achet\u00e9 de l’eau au magasin!

\u00c0 Arles, nous sommes arriv\u00e9s \u00e0 la fin du festival du riz. La rue principale \u00e9tait pleine de tentes, de vendeurs. Nous avons vu parmi eux des d\u00e9monstrations de voiture, de danse, de costumes traditionnels et de sports, et au total, nous avons trouv\u00e9 deux tentes parlant du c\u00e9l\u00e8bre riz de Camargue. Nous n’avons pas compris le concept, mais l’atmosph\u00e8re \u00e9tait excellente. Il \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 tard dans l’apr\u00e8s-midi, alors apr\u00e8s une bi\u00e8re et une promenade dans le centre-ville, nous sommes rentr\u00e9s. \u00c0 mi-chemin, \u00e0 Fontveille, nous nous sommes arr\u00eat\u00e9s. Nous avons d\u00een\u00e9 avec les fromages et les saucissons pr\u00e9alablement achet\u00e9s. Z \u00e9tait sur sa cinqui\u00e8me bi\u00e8re, moi sur ma deuxi\u00e8me. C’est une grande r\u00e9alisation pour lui de ne boire que cinq bi\u00e8res jusqu’\u00e0 huit heures du soir. S’il ne buvait que cette quantit\u00e9 chaque jour, il n’y aurait pas de probl\u00e8me. Le cyclisme occupait son esprit. Et puis, je pouvais \u00e0 peine le suivre en roller jusqu’au magasin o\u00f9 il achetait de la bi\u00e8re. Dans la partie restante du voyage, j’ai d\u00fb le motiver. Il \u00e9tait fatigu\u00e9. C’\u00e9tait une bonne journ\u00e9e. On peut faire de super activit\u00e9s avec Z s’il ne boit pas. C’est un partenaire de conversation sensationnel jusqu’\u00e0 la cinqui\u00e8me bi\u00e8re.

Au d\u00e9jeuner, les directeurs de l’h\u00f4tel ont expliqu\u00e9 qu’ils voulaient fermer le logement des travailleurs \u00e0 Fontvieille. Pour moi, cela signifie que je n’aurai pas de chambre s\u00e9par\u00e9e jusqu’\u00e0 novembre. Je vais devoir vivre avec un alcoolique. D’autre part, Bea emm\u00e9nagera dans la chambre voisine. Entre autres, j’ai voulu venir ici cet \u00e9t\u00e9 pour faciliter la transition apr\u00e8s le rejet. Maintenant, elle sera de retour ici – \u00e0 moins qu’elle ne d\u00e9missionne d’ici l\u00e0.
