Ezt a könyvet néhány hete vettem egy irodalmi riport hatására.
Én, magyar szemmel nézem Franciaországot.
Kíváncsi voltam, hogyan nézi Magyarországot egy született francia.

Tetszik a fickó humora és franciás lazasága.

Cselekmény
Húsz évvel ezelőtt indul a történet, amikor az egyetemista srác a Sziget Fesztiválra érkezik.
A látottak olyan hatást gyakorolnak rá, hogy visszatér egy szemeszterre, majd még egyre,
majd szerelmes lesz, aztán zenélni kezd Pécsett.

Szereplők
Az elmúlt hónapok olvasmányai után számomra újszerű élmény volt, hogy itt csak egy főszereplő van.
(Nem tudatos döntés volt, így alakult.)
A francia srác tanári munkáját, a magyar nyelv miatt keletkezett vicces helyzeteit követhetjük nyomon.
Láthatjuk karrierjének alakulását a zeneiparban is:
eleinte tangóharmonikás, gitáros, koncertszervező,
majd egy zenészeket is menedzselő online cég középvezetője lesz.

Minden hónapban új mellékszereplőt ismerhetünk meg.

Helyszín
Budapesten indul a sztori.
Aztán Pécsett kap tanári állást.
Innen néha kikacsintunk Bulgáriától Okcitániáig.

Bonyodalom
Itt nem lesz klasszikus bonyodalom, mint egy kalandregényben –
habár kalandból itt sincs hiány.
A drámai tetőpont számomra az életközepi válság.
Tetszett, hogy a megoldás nem az, hogy „Jó, akkor cseréljük le az életünket.”

Miért ajánlom?
Mert a fent említett riport is azt mondta, ez humoros lesz – igaza volt.
Mert kapott egy Margó-díjat – ezt olyan elsőkönyves szerzőknek adják,
akikről azt gondolják, hogy ők írták az adott év legjobb könyvét.
Lehet, ez szubjektív, de az biztos, hogy rossz könyvet erre a díjra nem jelölnek.

(A borok minősítése jut eszembe: az aranyérmes nem biztos, hogy a legjobb,
de biztos, hogy nem rossz.)

Nos, mivel nem ismerem a teljes könyvpiacot,
nem tudom eldönteni, ez volt-e 2025 legjobb elsőkönyves regénye,
de az biztos, hogy jó döntés volt ezt a regényt megvenni.

Én nagyon jól éreztem magam a könyv olvasása közben,
és azt hiszem, ez lenne a lényeg.

Ezért csináljuk – hogy az olvasó legalább arra a pár mondatra,
amíg a mi gondolatainkban járkál,
jól érezze magát ebben a világban.

Hát ez most nagyon sikerült.

Kinek ajánlom?
Mindenkinek, aki szereti a humoros olvasmányokat.
Aki szereti, ha valamit fejezetenként félbe lehet hagyni,
majd onnan ugyanolyan izgalommal lehet folytatni.
Annak, akit érdekel a magyar társadalom lelkivilága.

Idézetek a könyvből A hazám és az otthonom

Kétségkívül egyszerűbbnek tűnik a magyaroknak a dicső múlton nosztalgiázni, mint dolgozni a dicső jövőért. Hozzáteszem, nem tudom elképzelni, hogyan tud egy ilyen fenséges múlttal rendelkező ország megelégedni azzal, hogy kicsi, sokak számára jellegtelen állam lett belőle.

Inkább Grandpierre Atillából táplálkozzon, mint mondjuk Ákosból. Inkább a Zuboly hülyéskedjen a színpadon, mint az Irigy Hónaljmirigy. A fesztivál legváratlanabb slágere az a fúvószenekar, amely napi két műsorral boldogította a színpadok között átjáró közönséget

Este a Gomba nevű étteremben két idős ember ült egymással szemben a mellettünk lévő asztalnál. Néztem őket, mintha moziban ültem volna, mert volt a jelenetnek egy szürreális jellege. Egy szót sem szóltak egymáshoz, de majdnem végig egymás szemébe néztek. Mintha valami játékban vettek volna részt: az veszít, aki elröhögi magát, vagy aki megszólal. Negyedóránként mégiscsak megtörte a csendet az egyik, megkérdezve a másikat, hogy kér-e még egy fröccsöt. Ahogy megkapták, kortyolgatták, és továbbra sem vették le egymásról a szemüket. Nem a padlót nézték, hanem egymást figyelték.

My Country and My Home

English introduction:

How does a Frenchman see Hungary? And how do we see ourselves through his eyes? This witty, honest, and charming book offers a unique perspective on living in Pécs and Budapest – with music, language mishaps, and a lot of heart.

English body text:
I bought this book a few weeks ago after watching a literary interview.
As a Hungarian, I view France from my own cultural lens.
I was curious to see how a French-born man views Hungary.

I really enjoy his humor and that effortless French charm.

Plot
The story begins twenty years ago when a university student arrives at the Sziget Festival.
What he sees has such an impact that he returns for a semester,
then another, then falls in love, and finally starts playing music in Pécs.

Characters
After all my recent reads, it was a fresh experience to follow a story with just one main character.
(It wasn’t a conscious choice – it just turned out that way.)
We follow the journey of a French guy, his teaching job, and the hilarious situations he gets into thanks to the Hungarian language.
We also follow his evolving career in the music industry:
at first a tango accordionist, then a guitarist, concert organizer,
and eventually a middle manager at an online company representing musicians.

Each month, we meet a new supporting character.

Setting
The story begins in Budapest.
Then he lands a teaching job in Pécs.
From there, we occasionally peek into places from Bulgaria to Occitania.

Conflict
There’s no traditional conflict here like in an adventure novel –
although there’s no shortage of adventures.
For me, the dramatic high point is the midlife crisis.
I liked that the resolution wasn’t:
“Alright, let’s just change everything in our life.”

Why do I recommend it?
Because the interview I saw said it would be funny – and it was.
Because it won a Margó Prize –
an award given to first-time authors whose books are considered the best of the year.
Sure, it’s subjective, but one thing is certain: no bad book gets nominated.

(It reminds me of wine rankings: a gold medal might not mean it’s the best wine,
but it surely means it’s not a bad one.)

I don’t know the whole book market,
so I can’t say whether this was the best debut of 2025,
but I do know that buying this book was a great decision.

I had a wonderful time reading it –
and I think that’s the point.
That’s why we do this –
so that the reader, for at least those few sentences,
feels good walking through our thoughts and world.

And in this case, that worked beautifully.

Who do I recommend it to?
To anyone who loves humorous books.
To anyone who likes to pause at the end of a chapter and pick it up later with the same excitement.
To anyone curious about the soul of Hungarian society.

Mon pays et ma maison

Introduction française :

Comment un Français voit-il la Hongrie ? Et que voyons-nous de nous-mêmes à travers son regard ? Un livre plein d’humour, de sincérité et de tendresse sur la vie à Pécs, à Budapest – et dans les pièges de la langue hongroise.

Texte principal en français :
J’ai acheté ce livre il y a quelques semaines après avoir vu une interview littéraire.
Moi, en tant que Hongrois, je regarde la France avec mes yeux à moi.
J’étais curieux de voir comment un Français de naissance perçoit la Hongrie.

J’aime beaucoup son humour et cette décontraction typiquement française.

Intrigue
L’histoire commence il y a vingt ans, lorsqu’un étudiant arrive au festival Sziget.
Ce qu’il y découvre le marque tellement qu’il revient pour un semestre,
puis un autre, tombe amoureux,
et commence à faire de la musique à Pécs.

Personnages
Après mes lectures des derniers mois, ce fut une expérience nouvelle de lire une histoire avec un seul personnage principal.
(Ce n’était pas un choix conscient – les choses se sont juste passées ainsi.)
On suit ce jeune Français dans son travail d’enseignant et dans les situations comiques provoquées par la langue hongroise.
On suit aussi l’évolution de sa carrière dans l’industrie musicale :
d’abord accordéoniste de tango, puis guitariste, organisateur de concerts,
et enfin cadre intermédiaire dans une entreprise en ligne qui gère des musiciens.

Chaque mois, on découvre un nouveau personnage secondaire.

Lieu
L’histoire commence à Budapest.
Puis, il obtient un poste d’enseignant à Pécs.
De là, on fait parfois des excursions vers la Bulgarie ou l’Occitanie.

Conflit
Il n’y a pas ici de conflit classique comme dans un roman d’aventure –
quoique les aventures ne manquent pas.
Pour moi, le point culminant dramatique est la crise de la quarantaine.
Ce que j’ai aimé, c’est que la solution n’est pas :
« Bon, alors changeons toute notre vie. »

Pourquoi je le recommande ?
Parce que l’interview disait que ce serait drôle – et c’est vrai.
Parce qu’il a reçu le prix Margó –
un prix décerné aux premiers auteurs dont le livre est considéré comme l’un des meilleurs de l’année.
C’est peut-être subjectif,
mais une chose est sûre : aucun mauvais livre n’est nommé pour ce prix.

(Ça me rappelle les concours de vins : une médaille d’or ne garantit pas que c’est le meilleur vin,
mais elle garantit que ce n’est pas un mauvais.)

Je ne connais pas tout le marché du livre,
donc je ne peux pas dire si c’était le meilleur premier roman de 2025,
mais je sais que j’ai bien fait d’acheter ce roman.

J’ai passé un excellent moment à le lire –
et je pense que c’est ça, l’essentiel.
C’est pour ça qu’on écrit –
pour que le lecteur, au moins pendant quelques phrases,
en parcourant nos pensées,
se sente bien dans notre monde.

Et là, c’est très réussi.

À qui je le recommande ?
À tous ceux qui aiment les lectures drôles.
À ceux qui aiment pouvoir s’arrêter à la fin d’un chapitre
et reprendre plus tard avec le même plaisir.
À ceux qui s’intéressent à l’âme de la société hongroise.
