Az első könyv | The first book | Le premier livre
On 12th December 2023,
I achieved another milestone by purchasing my first book in French. In the past, I had bought a cookbook and a Playboy magazine during the last summer. I also purchased a comic book, which was a good start for me. However, translating Playboy was a complex task as it contained two hundred pages, out of which thirty pages were dedicated to girls, and the rest were lifestyle reports.
Today’s lesson is on philosophy.
The statistics may not be precise, but the proportions are evident. Nowadays, students in twelfth grade learn less than their counterparts did thirty years ago in eighth grade. Whether this ratio is appropriate is a matter of debate. Is it more important to have a broad understanding of many subjects or to have in-depth knowledge of a few?
It is clear that there is a decline in general knowledge. Specialisation may be the solution to prevent further regression. It is possible that there are other good solutions. An individual with a broad knowledge base may have a superficial understanding of many topics, but it is important to also have a specific area of expertise in which they are knowledgeable. It is advantageous if the author is a credible and knowledgeable authority on a narrow topic.

Une autre étape importante. Mon premier achat de livre en français. L’été dernier, j’ai acheté un livre de cuisine et un magazine Playboy. Et maintenant une bande dessinée. Traduire autant de texte est un début. J’avais déjà essayé de traduire Playboy, mais la complexité de cette traduction n’était assistée que par ordinateur. Ici, Playboy fait deux cents pages, dont trente pages de filles et le reste de reportages sur le mode de vie.
Et voici la leçon de philosophie du jour :
Si les statistiques ne sont pas exactes, les proportions sont palpables. Aujourd’hui, les enfants d’une école de douzième année n’apprennent pas autant que ceux d’une école de huitième année il y a trente ans. La question de savoir si ce rapport est juste est une autre philosophie. Avons-nous besoin de connaissances approfondies ou est-il plus important d’avoir une bonne compréhension de tout ?
Je peux certainement constater que les gens sont de plus en plus stupides. Je pense que la solution pour éviter cette régression totale est la spécialisation (je n’exclus pas qu’il y ait d’autres bonnes solutions). Je veux dire par là qu’un individu a une connaissance superficielle, un aperçu de tout si possible (peut-être que la connaissance théorique ou la connaissance des détails n’est plus nécessaire). Cependant, il doit aussi y avoir une spécialisation très spécifique, dans laquelle l’individu est l’omniscient de tout. Dans ce cas, ce n’est pas une mauvaise chose, ni même un avantage, s’il s’agit d’un segment étroit de quelque chose pour lequel la personne est une autorité absolument enthousiaste, crédible et profonde.

Egy újabb mérföldkő. Megvolt az első könyv vásárlásom francia nyelven. Nah jó, tavaly nyáron is vettem egy szakács könyvet, meg egy Playboy magazint. Most pedig egy képregény könyvet. Kezdésnek ennyi szöveget lefordítani pont elég. Korábban próbálkoztam a Playboy fordításával, de annak az összetettsége az csak a számítógéppel ment. A Playboy, itt kétszáz oldalas melyből harminc oldal a lányok, a többi pedig életút riportok.
És íme a mai filozófiai óra:
Ha nem is pontos a statisztika, de az arányok érzékletesek. Ma egy tizenkét osztályos iskolában nem tanulnak meg annyi mindent a gyerekek, mint harminc éve egy nyolc osztályosban. Az egy másik filozófia lesz, hogy jó -e ez az arány. Kell -e a mély tudás vagy inkább a mindenhez is értés, vagyis a rálátás a fontos?
Azt biztosan látom, hogy az emberek egyre hülyébbek. A kiutat a totális visszafejlődésből szerintem az jelenti, ha az emberek specializálódnak. (Nem zárom ki, hogy más jó megoldások is léteznek.) Értem ezalatt, hogy van az egyénnek egy felszínes tudása, van rálátása lehetőleg mindenre. (Talán nem is szükséges ma már az elméleti tudás vagy a részletek ismerete.) Viszont, kell, hogy legyen emellett egy nagyon egyedi szakterület, aminek az adott egyén a mindent tudó mindenhatója. Itt nem baj, sőt előny, ha ez valaminek a szűk szegmense, aminek abszolút lelkes, hiteles, mélységes szaktekintélye.
