Kondor Vilmos – Az utolsó magyar akcióhős
Egy krimi, amit bringázás közben hallgattam, és ugyanúgy beszippantott, mint az előző részek. Kondor Vilmos alternatív Magyarországa ismét működik: humorral, akcióval és merész kérdésfelvetésekkel. Ez a könyv nem kevesebbet vállal, mint hogy újraértelmezze a magyar múltat – szórakoztató formában.
Ezt tavaly szeptemberben hallgattam, miközben bringáztam,
és ugyanannyira élveztem, mint a korábbi két könyvet.
Ahhoz teljesen hasonló volt – azoknak a folytatása.
Cselekmény
Úgyszintén ki kell deríteni egy nemzetközi rejtélyt.
Most is a Második Magyar Köztársaságban járunk:
abban a kitalált világban, ahol a második világháború vége felé
Horthy Miklósnak sikerül a kiugrási kísérlet,
így az ország nem az orosz, hanem a nyugati gondolatvilágot követi.
Egy egyszerű rablás apropóján botlunk bele abba a kérdésbe,
hogy vajon ki ölte meg az ENSZ főtitkárát.
És mi köze az egészhez egy magyar zsoldos katonának?
Tényleg – és mi lesz a kilencéves kislányával?
Mert hát, mint minden rendes krimiben,
a sötét erők zsarolási potenciált látnak a gyerek létezésében.
De hogy jön a képbe egy fegyveres apáca?!
Ja, és persze itt is van egy húzd meg–ereszd meg szerelmi szál.
Szóval ez a lebilincselő regény minden sablont felhasznál,
ami a sikeres krimiket jellemzi.
Az már biztos, hogy ez sem rossz könyv.
Azon gondolkodom, hogy nemzetközi porondon
miért állja meg a helyét ennyire erősen.
Nem tudok könnyen érvelni mellette egy másik zseniális krimivel szemben,
de az senki előtt nem kérdés, hogy a felső öt százalékba tartozik a műfajában.
Hogy azon belül miért ez a legjobb?
Ez már nehezebb kérdés.
Ha valaki szórakoztató krimit akar olvasni,
ennél rosszabbat soha ne válasszon!
A jó kérdés inkább az,
hogy a magyar kultúrából érkező olvasók számára
miért különösen ajánlott.
Az alternatív valóság miatt.
Képzeljük el, mi lett volna,
ha a vasfüggöny Magyarország keleti (!) határán húzódik.
Kondor Vilmos immár harmadszorra válaszolja meg ezt a felvetést –
humorral.
Az a gyanúm, hogy ezeket a poénokat igazán azok értékelik,
akik ismerik a Kádár-korszakot.
És az is a gyanúm,
hogy ezek a poénok épp azért működnek,
mert a megtörténtekhez képest „ülnek”.
Sok olyan kritikát olvastam,
ahol a Második Magyar Köztársaság
vagy az Első budapesti olimpia című regényhez képest
ezt kevésbé jónak tartják.
Oké – de ez a „kevésbé jó”
távolról sem jelent elégtelent.
Az előző két könyvvel túl magasra tette a mércét.
Ez a könyv pedig simán csak: zseniális.

I listened to this book last September while cycling,
and I enjoyed it just as much as the previous two.
It felt very similar – a clear continuation.
Plot
Once again, an international mystery needs to be solved.
We return to the Second Hungarian Republic,
an imagined world where, toward the end of World War II,
Miklós Horthy’s attempt to exit the war succeeds,
and Hungary follows Western rather than Soviet ideology.
Through what seems like a simple robbery,
we stumble upon the question of who killed the UN Secretary-General.
And what does all this have to do with a Hungarian mercenary?
And what about his nine-year-old daughter?
Because, as in every proper crime novel,
dark forces see blackmail potential in the child’s existence.
And how on earth does an armed nun fit into the picture?
Yes – there’s also a push-and-pull romantic subplot.
This gripping novel uses every successful crime-fiction trope,
and it works.
It’s definitely not a bad book.
What I keep wondering is
why it stands so strong on an international level.
It’s clearly in the top five percent of the genre.
Whether it’s the best is debatable –
but its quality isn’t.
If someone wants an entertaining crime novel,
they should never choose worse than this.
For Hungarian readers, however,
there’s an extra reason to recommend it.
The alternative reality.
What if the Iron Curtain had run along Hungary’s eastern border?
Kondor Vilmos answers this question for the third time –
with humor.
My suspicion is that these jokes truly resonate
with readers familiar with the Kádár era.
And that they work precisely because
they echo lived history.
Some critics find this book weaker
than The Second Hungarian Republic
or The First Budapest Olympics.
Fair enough –
but “weaker” here is still far from mediocre.
The bar was set incredibly high.
This book still clears it easily.
It’s simply brilliant.

Le dernier héros d’action hongrois – polar en réalité alternative

Un roman policier que j’ai écouté à vélo et que j’ai autant apprécié que les précédents. Kondor Vilmos continue d’explorer une Hongrie alternative avec humour, rythme et intelligence. Une lecture (ou écoute) aussi divertissante que stimulante.

J’ai écouté ce livre en septembre dernier en faisant du vélo,
et je l’ai autant apprécié que les deux précédents.
Il s’inscrit clairement dans leur continuité.
Intrigue
Une fois de plus, il faut résoudre un mystère international.
Nous retournons dans la Seconde République hongroise,
un monde fictif où, vers la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale,
la tentative de sortie de guerre de Miklós Horthy réussit,
et où la Hongrie suit une voie occidentale plutôt que soviétique.
À partir d’un simple braquage,
on en vient à se demander qui a assassiné le secrétaire général de l’ONU.
Quel est le lien avec un mercenaire hongrois ?
Et que va devenir sa fille de neuf ans ?
Car, comme dans tout bon polar,
les forces obscures voient dans l’enfant un moyen de pression.
Et puis… comment une nonne armée entre-t-elle dans l’histoire ?
Bien sûr, il y a aussi une intrigue amoureuse faite de tensions.
Ce roman captivant utilise tous les codes du polar efficace –
et ça fonctionne.
Ce n’est clairement pas un mauvais livre.
Ce qui m’interpelle,
c’est sa solidité sur la scène internationale.
Il fait sans aucun doute partie des cinq pour cent supérieurs du genre.
Est-il le meilleur ?
La question reste ouverte –
mais sa qualité ne fait aucun doute.
Si quelqu’un cherche un polar divertissant,
il ne devrait jamais choisir moins bien que celui-ci.
Pour les lecteurs hongrois,
il y a toutefois une raison supplémentaire de le lire.
La réalité alternative.
Et si le Rideau de fer avait longé la frontière orientale de la Hongrie ?
Kondor Vilmos répond à cette question pour la troisième fois –
avec humour.
Je pense que ces clins d’œil sont particulièrement savoureux
pour ceux qui connaissent l’époque Kádár.
Et qu’ils fonctionnent justement
parce qu’ils dialoguent avec l’histoire vécue.
Certains critiques estiment ce roman moins fort
que La Seconde République hongroise
ou La Première olympiade de Budapest.
Soit.
Mais ce « moins fort » est loin d’être médiocre.
La barre avait été placée très haut.
Ce livre la franchit encore sans peine.
Il est tout simplement brillant.
