On 13th December 2023,
I informed my family that I will not be joining them for Christmas. Instead, I will be staying here to take care of the estate. Their reaction was a mix of shock, regret and silence. Although I miss my family, I do not miss the country or its atmosphere.
Christmas will pass like any other day. I plan to go to the church and spend time with the people, drinking mulled wine. If possible, I will have lunch or dinner in town.
Today, I cooked peppers and potatoes. Zaiha brought me a packet of potatoes yesterday. I am grateful for the help I received and unsure how to properly express my gratitude. Additionally, I attempted to bake meringue for the first time, and while it tasted like meringue, it did not resemble the strawberry meringue made by our pastry chef. The last time we met was in early April. I’m not saying I don’t miss them. I don’t miss the country itself, the atmosphere. There is nothing personal about it.

Ma közöltem a családommal, hogy nem megyek haza karácsonykor. Én fogok itt maradni, őrizni a birtokot. Megrendülve, sajnálattal, szótlanul fogadták. Utoljára április elején találkoztunk. Nem azt mondom, hogy nem hiányoznak. Maga az ország, a közeg nem hiányozik. Nincs ebben semmi személyes.
A karácsony ugyanúgy fog eltelni, mint az összes többi. Lemegyek a templomba, majd ott maradok az emberek között forralt borozni. Ha mód van rá, a városban vacsorázom / ebédelek.
Amúgy ma főztem paprikás krumplit. Zaiha hozott tegnap nekem egy csomag krumplit. Nem tudom miért ilyen jó hozzám és azt sem, hogy hogyan hálálom meg. Emellett, életemben először, habcsókot sütöttem. Habcsók íze lett, de a legkevésbé sem hasonlított kinézetben a cukrászunk epres habcsókjára.
