One year in the company

2024. 11 May. Saturday
I left on the ninth from Christa’s, Budapest, and arrived on the tenth in the evening. Tiffany was the first person I met, I didn’t even know where I was. I started working under Jean-Pierre with excitement and enthusiasm. I am now on my third chef. I wrote a thank you note to Gabriella, who helped me with the translation. Presumably my CV didn’t end up in the trash because the owner has a Hungarian girlfriend.

Dear Gabriella! Exactly one year ago I had my first day of work at the Benvengudo hotel. I am only writing to thank you for your support over the past year. Without your help, I wouldn’t have a job in Provence. Have a nice weekend, László.

Thank you for your goodwill towards me. I had spoken to the hotel manager a few weeks earlier and told him, in my own simple language, that I did not understand and did not want special treatment, because it was not me who was important, but the whole team, where I had to fit in. The manager had a very pithy answer to this: “Every employee is important.” When I’m in the kitchen, I want to be a useful member of the team. I am also grateful to the chef for his patience with me. Every day I watch what my colleagues are doing and try to learn from them. I learn French every afternoon. I myself think that my knowledge is not yet sufficient. I will continue to learn. If I work in a technical field, it’s just an even better situation for me. Until then, I’ll do my best to be useful in the kitchen.

Thank you for everyone’s support over the past year at the Benvengudo hotel. I am grateful for the opportunity to show my skills in the kitchen. Every employee is important and I want to be part of this team. I remain committed to growing and contributing to the success of the kitchen. Thank you all for your support and patience, and I will continue to learn French so that I can do even more for my work.
