In the span of two days, two Hungarian scientists of Hungarian descent received Nobel Prizes!
Katalin Karikó lives in America. We owe the Covid vaccine to her.
Ferenc Krausz is an atomic scientist living in Germany. To put it imprecisely: he managed to study the atom, time, and light by breaking them down into such small parts that it is incomprehensible to the average person.

For a small country, where I also come from, this is a tremendous joy. The saying goes: the best export commodity of Hungarians is their intellect.

Of course, I am thrilled about these Nobel Prizes. However, living here in France, it made me wonder what any of my colleagues would think if I told them. Because I have to tell them; for example, do we know who received the other prizes? They will ask why they are Hungarian. Why is this a Hungarian achievement? Oh, because they come from there – from Eastern Europe. My suspicion is that the local newspapers will present it like this: Katalin Karikó, who created the Covid vaccine. She conducts research in America and Germany. Ferenc Krausz, who conducted an experiment that no one had done before, thus creating a new field of science. He is the director of an atomic physics institute in Munich.

It’s interesting how the nationality of the awardees is not mentioned in the non-Hungarian media.
How do they interpret the map in Western Europe? There is Europe, and there is Eastern Europe.

The two Hungarian guys in France say that this is Europe here. Maybe they were right somewhere. If we look at the map, we can still accurately point out where the Iron Curtain was in the 20th century. So there is Western Europe and there is the Eastern Bloc. Europe is not unified. I understand, there is a European Union. Where there are those who are comfortable, and there are the workers.

So, everything is relative. A lot depends on what and where we look from.

En l’espace de deux jours, deux scientifiques d’origine hongroise ont reçu le Prix Nobel !

Katalin Karikó vit en Amérique. Nous lui devons le vaccin contre la Covid.

Ferenc Krausz est un scientifique atomique vivant en Allemagne. Pour simplifier, il a réussi à étudier l’atome, le temps et la lumière en les décomposant en si petites parties que c’est incompréhensible pour la personne ordinaire.

Pour un petit pays, d’où je viens aussi, c’est une joie immense. Ce n’est pas par hasard que l’on dit que le meilleur produit d’exportation des Hongrois est leur intellect.

Bien sûr, je suis ravi de ces Prix Nobel. Cependant, vivant ici en France, je me demande ce que pensera n’importe lequel de mes collègues si je leur raconte cela. Car je dois le leur dire ; par exemple, savons-nous qui a reçu les autres prix ? On va demander pourquoi ils sont hongrois. Pourquoi est-ce un exploit hongrois ? Oh, parce qu’ils viennent de là-bas – de l’Europe de l’Est. J’ai le soupçon que les journaux locaux vont présenter cela ainsi : Katalin Karikó, celle qui a créé le vaccin contre la Covid. Elle fait des recherches en Amérique et en Allemagne. Ferenc Krausz, celui qui a réalisé une expérience que personne n’avait faite auparavant, créant ainsi un nouveau domaine scientifique. Il est le directeur d’un institut de physique atomique à Munich.

Il est intéressant de constater que la nationalité des lauréats n’est pas mentionnée dans les médias non hongrois.

Comment interprètent-ils la carte en Europe de l’Ouest ? Il y a l’Europe, et il y a l’Europe de l’Est.

Les deux gars hongrois en France disent que c’est l’Europe ici. Peut-être avaient-ils raison quelque part. Si nous regardons la carte, nous pouvons toujours indiquer avec précision où se trouvait le rideau de fer au XXe siècle. Donc il y a l’Europe de l’Ouest et il y a le bloc de l’Est. L’Europe n’est pas unifiée. Je comprends, il y a une Union européenne. Où il y a ceux qui sont à l’aise, et il y a les travailleurs.

Donc, tout est relatif. Beaucoup dépend de ce que nous regardons et d’où nous regardons.

Két nap alatt két magyar nemzetiségű tudós kapott Nobel díjat!
Karikó Katalin Amerikában él. Neki köszönhetjük a covid vakcinát.
Krausz Ferenc Németországban élő atomtudós. Ezt most pontatlanul fogalmazom: az atomot az időt és a fényt sikerült olyan kis részekre bontva tanulmányoznia ami a hétköznapi ember számára felfoghatatlan.
Egy olyan kis országnak, ahonnan én is jövök, ez hatalmas öröm. Nem véletlen a mondás: a magyarok legjobb export cikke az agy.
Természetesen örülök ezeknek a Nobel díjaknak. Viszont itt Franciaországban élve az jutott eszembe, vajon mit fog gondolni bármely kollégám, ha ezt elmesélem. Mert el kell mesélni; Mi például tudjuk, hogy a többi díjat ki kapta? Meg fogják kérdezni, hogy ők miért magyarok? Ez miért magyar érdem? Jah, hogy onnan jöttek – a keleti Európából. Az a gyanúm, hogy az itteni újságok ekképpen fogják lehozni: Karikó Katalin, aki megalkotta covid elleni oltást. Amerikában és Németországban kutat. Krausz Ferenc, aki olyan kísérletet vitt végbe, amit előtte még senki, ezzel létrehozott egy új tudomány területet. Egy Müncheni atom fizikai intézet igazgatója.
Milyen érdekes hogy a nem magyar médiában nincs meg említve a díjazottak nemzetisége.
Hogyan értelmezik Nyugat Európában a térképet? Van Európa, meg van Kelet – Európa.

Azt mondja a két magyar srácnak Franciaországban, hogy ez itt Európa. Talán valahol igaza volt. Ha ránézünk a térképre, akkor a mai napig pontosan meg tudjuk mondani hol volt a huszadik században a vasfüggöny. Szóval van nyugati Európa és van a keleti blokk. Európa nem egységes. Értem, egy Európai Unió van. Ahol vannak, akik kényelmesek és vannak a munkások.

Szóval, minden viszonylagos. Sok függ attól, hogy mit és honnan nézünk.
